Winkelwiese and Trittliwiese
Today and in the future
About this process
All important information on the "Winkel- und Trittliwiese" participation process follows here on an ongoing basis.
The city of Zurich has been the owner of the Winkelwiese and the Trittliwiese since 1975. The gardens of the two properties on the edge of the old town between Rämistrasse and Hirschengraben are part of a contiguous park landscape with their wooded backdrop visible from afar and unique in their abundance of greenery in the densely built-up old town. The garden at Winkelwiese 10 and 12 is now used exclusively by the residents. Since 1990, the Trittliwiese with the farm building at Waldmannstrasse 16 has been used exclusively by the Parents' Association of the Old Town of Zurich, the kindergartens and crèches of the Old Town on the right of the Limmat as well as by the residents of the directly adjacent properties.
The buildings at Winkelwiese 10 and 12 will be retained and will be extensively repaired by the City of Zurich. At the same time, both gardens and the farm building at Waldmannstrasse 16 will also be renovated.
The comprehensive renovation of the buildings opens up new opportunities for more open space in the district. The gardens of the Winkelwiese and the Trittliwiese will be reunited according to the historical model, separating elements will be dissolved. Parts of the Winkelwiese residential garden, which is now private, can be used by the public in the future. The merger and the enlarged area will enable additional possibilities of use and an expanded group of users. The character of the green oasis is to be preserved and strengthened.
Grün Stadt Zürich held two public dialogue events with the neighbourhood population to discuss how to achieve good cooperation between users from the neighbourhood and residents.
In April 2026, the building application for the renovation of buildings and gardens will be submitted.
