Developing the Schlachthof site in dialogue
Participation in test and master planning
About this process
Participation process in the "Test and Master Planning for the Slaughterhouse Site"
The
slaughterhouse site is continuing to develop: In the long term , the site is to offer an urban workplace area for local food production and processing with public green and open spaces as well as a new school site. At the same time, a meeting place for the district is to be created that connects the neighboring districts with each other. The city council has therefore decided with the STRB 1151/2022 not to extend the leases with the three current main users, which expire in 2029, and to discontinue slaughtering operations on the site.
For the development of urban planning, urban spatial and use-specific principles for the development of the slaughterhouse area, the implementation of a test plan is necessary. Based on the findings of the test planning, the specifications for the sustainable development of the area are defined in a master plan. The preparation and implementation of the test planning as well as the development of the master plan together form the "Development Planning for the Slaughterhouse Site".
How you can participate
Participation is an integral part of the step-by-step transformation of the slaughterhouse site. We attach great importance to the integration of the concerns of residents and other stakeholders important to the area. To this end, public information and dialogue events as well as online participation are planned during the test planning. In addition, a track group with representatives of the most important stakeholder groups such as neighbourhood associations, current tenants, businesses, cultural and socio-cultural groups and neighbouring landowners as well as politicians is closely monitoring development planning.
Planned events
- Introduction to online participation: 7-10 May 2025
- Online participation: 7-28 May 2025
- Insight into the test planning workshop: 27-29 August 2025
- Second dialogue event: beginning of 2026
- Third dialogue event: beginning of 2027
- Final information event
Participation so far within the framework of the utilisation strategy
In the echo chambers, the continued existence of the slaughterhouse and the realignment of the area were discussed in detail. The regional value chain was important to the participants, especially the trade representatives. At the same time, the district would like to see a more open, permeable and greener area. Some concerns of the population and trade representatives have been included in the utilisation strategy and will be incorporated into further development planning. On this basis, the city council decided in 2022 to discontinue the slaughterhouse at the end of 2029 in order to enable the transformation of the area with public uses and open spaces.
