Developing the Schlachthof site in dialogue
Participation in test and master planning
About this process
What is important to you for the future of the Schlachthof site?
The slaughterhouse site is continuing to develop: In the long term, the area is to become an urban workplace area for local food production and processing and offer space for public green and open spaces as well as a primary school and, if necessary, apartments. At the same time, a meeting place for the neighbourhood is to be created that connects the neighbouring districts with each other. The city council has therefore decided to discontinue slaughtering operations on the site at the end of 2029 in order to enable the development of the area.
Test planning is currently being carried out, which shows the possible development of the area with the specified main uses. A large part of the existing buildings are listed buildings. Consequently, with the further development of the area, the historic brick buildings will be preserved and supplemented with new buildings.
Documentation of online participation
In May 2025, concerns and ideas for the development of the slaughterhouse site could be introduced and discussed in selected thematic rooms in the online participation. This made it possible to clarify and specify the concerns of the population from the first dialogue event in December 2024.
It is helpful for those responsible for the project to better know the needs of the population with regard to the development of the slaughterhouse area. These can be taken into account in the further planning phases, where possible and in combination with the planned main uses.
The concerns and ideas, e.g. on the concrete uses, were summarised and recorded in the documentation in order to be able to take them up again in a later project phase.
To the documentationNext steps The processing of the test planning will run until the end of 2025.On the evening of 9 March 2026, a public dialogue event will take place, where information will be provided on the results of the test planning and the further procedure for the development of the slaughterhouse site.
