Short summary

Net-zero companies: Act together locally instead of just reporting globally.

What should be created?
Many companies are currently stuck in cycles of reporting, compliance, and reputation management, which overloads their sustainability teams and alienates them from measurable impact. From the outside, the agenda of "Corporate Social Responsibility" often seems non-transparent and difficult to understand. What is possible instead: An urban-supported, pre-competitive collaboration space where companies come together to conduct real local experiments that reduce their emissions and strengthen local ecosystems. Small cohorts of 5-10 companies (across industries) commit to a 3-6 month "action cycle" in which they identify common challenges in net-zero goals – such as supply emissions, food procurement, employee commuting, material waste or threatened supply chains. In moderated Design Thinking workshops, the companies then jointly develop, test and implement practical solutions that can be tested directly in a real neighbourhood context. Instead of writing strategies, experiments are created that generate measurable emission reductions and at the same time create visible participation in the neighborhood. Results can include, for example, jointly promoting a neighbourhood location that strengthens biodiversity and offers employees the opportunity for visible volunteer work on their way to the office. Local businesses are supported by coordination, technical guidance, and seed funding to enable rapid iterations while maintaining a secure, pre-competitive framework for experimentation. Competition concerns are thus replaced by climate cooperation. As soon as the first results are available, companies can continue on a self-financing basis, so that successful experiments can be scaled sustainably. By extending it to the whole of Zurich, a new norm is being established: acting together locally instead of just reporting globally.
