You no longer have to fly or drive to the famous flower villages of France. We have something better locally: the "Wiedikon Wildflower Meadow" not only beautiful, but also diverse and designed by the community! Imagine Binz and Alt-Wiedikon blooming in all the colours of the rainbow from March to October – a pilot project to make Zurich the most species-rich city in Europe! Thanks to the right types of flowers, the flowers offer pollen and nectar for wild bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects from March to October. These, in turn, serve as food for birds and thus influence the entire food web. A small, nature-based solution with a huge impact on reducing greenhouse gases. Where? On formerly bare balconies, unused roadsides, paths and tree slices. Everyone is invited to participate! Instead of concrete heat islands, unused shop walls and building sides can now be planted with recycled planters with mini wildflower meadows – all repurposed for biodiversity, cityscape beauty, heat reduction and social recreation. Many residents do not have a garden, but can now become part of an urban wildflower garden. During the biennial planting season, everyone is welcome to participate in the social arts festivals. We design planters from recycled materials, give wildflowers to anyone who brings their old pots, and offer games for children to discover the impact on biodiversity together. In the process, we learn a lot about biodiversity and its impact on emissions, soil health, the value of native plants, many of which are threatened (and later harvest seeds), the creation of wild bee nests (instead of bee hotels) – and much more! This is just the beginning of educational opportunities to reduce emissions. The starting point is the beauty of nature, the connection in the neighbourhood and an easy introduction to the understanding of biodiversity - the value of a wildflower meadow. Optionally, the steep slope at Kohlerwiese can be transformed into a wildflower meadow (with species that survive tobogganing in winter), so that the entire neighborhood can enjoy a large meadow. Let's bring the whole community, young and old, together for a simple but very impactful project that will make the neighborhood not only beautiful, but also "cool" and species-rich!

Roofs, roadsides, balconies, shop sides, unused concrete surfaces, metal railings, abandoned tree pits – anywhere there is room for a planter of any size
