Climate protection connects generations – from young to old acting together

Avatar: Markus Ulrich Markus Ulrich

What should be created?
This project brings young people, parents and grandparents together and shapes the path to net zero in the pilot district across generations. It starts with parallel workshops: In the simulation game "postfossilCities junior", young people experience the path to net zero in a playful and concrete way, while parents and grandparents work towards the same goal with the more demanding adult version – both based on the same scientifically based model. Afterwards, the generations exchange ideas and link the climate protection measures tested in the game with their realities of life: What works, what doesn't? The common model basis provides orientation and a common basis for dialogue. In this way, climate protection becomes tangible, concrete and close to everyday life; the participants deepen insights, make differences visible and open up new perspectives. The older generations also become supporters of the younger ones, in the spirit of holistic, sustainable development with responsibility for future generations. We are also building a bridge to the climate projects in the pilot district and developing concrete, generation-specific options for action for the everyday lives of young and old. The subsequent follow-up activities keep the process alive beyond the workshop.
example
We have conducted workshops in Zurich and throughout Switzerland, so far separately with young people (postfossilCities junior, age group 12-17 years) and adults (postfossilCities, from 17-18 years). What is special about this project is the connection of the generations. The young people will be able to have a say at eye level, because both games are based on the identical scientifically based model and this creates many points of contact for exchange. Apprentices of the City of Winterthur (upcoming, 19./21.5.26). Adults with postfossilCities (©Photos: Markus Ulrich): Kulturpark Zürich (29.1.25), Sustainability Days of the City of Uster (28.10.24)
Are you an individual or part of a group?
We are an organization (e.g. association, foundation, educational institution, NGO)
Name
Verein Spielraum Netto-Null (Michaela Kuijvenhoven, Sabine Mehring, Markus Ulrich), Dialog N (Xenia Junge) and others from the postfossilCities/junior team, networked with suitable pilot projects in the neighborhood.
Are you implementing the idea alone or are you still looking for comrades-in-arms?
I don't know yet
Describe the place(s)
Suitable workshop rooms in the neighbourhood for single or multiple implementations, perhaps also as part of a larger event (marketplace, action day, ....). Ideally, it should be networked with projects in the net-zero pilot district and would be happy to be supported by other committed people in the pilot district.
