What should be created?
This project supports the actors in the pilot district to become maximally effective. It promotes their networking and supports them with a jointly experienced "climate protection map". Such a process can release great collective energies; recently with a client, in the original sound: "A somersault forward!" This project is based on our experience with "postfossilCities – the game towards climate-neutral Switzerland" and comprises three steps. STEP 1: FOUNDATION: Together, we identify the specific challenges in the pilot district and strategically put together a group of a maximum of 28 actors and multipliers from pilot projects and the entire district. STEP 2: EXPERIMENT IN THE GAME: postfossilCities workshop with the selected participants (3/4-1 day). In the simulation game, they shape the climate transition together and experience the transformation to net zero in fast motion: concrete, urgent and solution-oriented. They take on the roles of social actors, negotiate, wrestle for decisions, forge alliances and have an impact towards net zero. A holistic, technically sound map of the path to net zero becomes visible, as a common frame of reference for subsequent action. In the reflection, the participants build a bridge to the climate projects and their neighborhood. They discover the togetherness and value of overarching alliances. They discover new scope for action, think out-of-the-box and gain the power to move forward together. STEP 3: FOLLOW-UP: In two or more short follow-up meetings (approx. 11/2-2 hours), the participants exchange experiences and forge alliances. In this way, concrete, joint progress is strengthened. People, including multipliers in the neighbourhood, are no longer on their own, but in lively cooperation towards net zero.
example
We conducted workshops with the simulation game postfossilCities all over Switzerland. Last autumn/winter 2025/2026, we were in three cities (Allschwil, Illnau-Effretikon and Schaffhausen) and one canton (Aargau), each with a three-step process as shown above. What did it show? The process activated strategically relevant people, brought them together, shortened communication channels and created a common understanding of effective and feasible climate measures. Participants experienced the urgency of courageous action for net zero and the importance of cooperation and joint action. The follow-up ensured the anchoring and effect in everyday life afterwards. Depending on requirements, this process can be carried out once or several times with a maximum of 28 people at a time, even at different times during the project period.
