Sharing instead of owning: Open cargo bike station for emission-free neighbourhood mobility

What should be created?
An open mobility hub for emission-free transport is to be created in the Alt-Wiedikon/Binz pilot district: an autonomously operated cargo bike station that will enable non-commercial cargo bike sharing for all interested parties in the district. Do you need a cargo bike at short notice and spontaneously for shopping, transporting children, driving materials or other neighbourhood activities? In the future, you will be able to rent a cargo bike quickly and easily at the cargo bike station. The station sees itself as a non-commercial, donation-based community offer. It complements the existing sharing offer of the cargo bike collective Zurich, which is based on private rental relationships, with a fast, anonymous and reliable option. The core of the project is a robust, weather-protected parking and charging infrastructure for an electric cargo bike (e.g. an e-trike), combined with a simple, digital booking and access system. The vehicle can be reserved online; access is independent via a secured box with combination lock. The code will be delivered automatically after booking. This means that the offer can be used around the clock. Beyond the pure use of vehicles, the mobility hub is also intended to be a place for the exchange of knowledge and experience: (1) Passing on know-how on the maintenance, repair and everyday use of cargo bikes as part of joint bicycle maintenance. (2) Raising awareness of climate-friendly everyday mobility and promoting community organisation and responsibility in the neighbourhood. (3) Networking with similar initiatives nationally and internationally. The project is designed as a scalable prototype: If the cargo bike station in the pilot district works well, the model can be transferred to other locations with manageable effort. In this way, the project makes a concrete contribution to reducing noise and greenhouse gas emissions, promoting sharing instead of owning and strengthening the common good in the Alt-Wiedikon/Binz district.

Are you an individual or part of a group?
We are an informal group (e.g. neighborhood group)
Name
Lastenradkollektiv Zürich
Are you implementing the idea alone or are you still looking for comrades-in-arms?
I/we implement the idea independently
Describe the place(s)
The cargo bike station can be flexibly implemented throughout the pilot district. It would be conceivable to have places such as the Binz component warehouse project idea, next to existing bicycle parking spaces of cooperatives (e.g. BGW) or on the grounds of urban housing estates (Rebhügel).
