Quartier-WERTstatt – Let's give new value to things

What if we could fundamentally change the way we deal with consumption – directly in the everyday lives of people in the neighbourhood? The Quartier-WERTstatt is an open place, a workshop for all people in the neighbourhood – adults, young people and children – who want to reuse, change and creatively rethink things instead of simply replacing them. Both in independent projects and in practical workshops – especially for young people and children – the neighbourhood residents work with used textiles, furniture, everyday objects and other materials. In the process, they develop manual skills, but above all a new awareness: those who invest time and energy build a relationship with objects. Things take on meaning – and are used longer. This is precisely where a concrete contribution to sustainability lies: less consumption, less waste and a measurable reduction in CO₂. Quartier-WERTstatt is closely networked in the neighbourhood and ideally works together with local partners to actively close material cycles. In cooperation with disposal and recycling points (e.g. ERZ), sorted items can be reused in a targeted manner before they end up in the waste. Old materials thus flow directly into the workshop and can be converted or creatively developed on site by residents of the district. Purchased furniture and objects from second-hand shops as well as one's own personal finds also open up new possibilities: These are jointly upgraded and put back into use. At the same time, all neighbourhood residents – regardless of age, experience or background – can participate in WERTstattleben by means of their own projects and/or in guided workshops. In this way, the Quartier-WERTstatt becomes an interface between disposal, reuse and education – and makes the circular economy tangible in everyday life. It is a place of learning and creativity where people of all ages learn to redefine the value of things – away from quick replaceability and towards quality, responsibility and identification. The centre not only strengthens ecological skills, but also creativity, self-efficacy and a sense of community – across generations. We don't just upcycle things – we change the perspective on their value. The Quartier-WERTstatt combines sustainability, education, practice, community and inclusive participation, thus creating a place that all people in the neighbourhood can actively help shape.
