Short summary

What should be created?
We want to enable the residents and companies in the pilot district to transport cargo with their own bicycles or e-bikes. For this purpose, so-called cargo hubs will be set up at various locations, where high-quality cargo trailers can be rented for any type of cargo transport. The cargo hubs are part of a community cargo sharing, an environmentally friendly, simple cargo sharing. It combines the existing infrastructure, i.e. your own bike or e-bike with shared, high-quality cargo trailers. Community cargo sharing relies more on personal responsibility and communal cycling culture than on apps and complex technology. The cargo hubs are managed by the users themselves. Technical assistance is provided by the local company Holy Cargo AG. At local events, couplings will be installed and all those involved will be shown how easy it is to transport cargo with their own bicycles or e-bikes. Whether a cargo hub is built will be decided by the residents and companies in the pilot district. They register their needs. For example, from 50 demand notifications, a cargo hub with up to 7 cargo trailers (in different sizes) is realized. The cargo trailers are used in a very uncomplicated way according to the "first come, first served" principle. Housing cooperatives in Lucerne, Zurich and Winterthur are already making use of community cargo sharing. It shows how sharing on one's own responsibility makes a lot of cargo capacity available at the lowest cost over the years. High-quality cargo trailers from the Swiss company polyroly AG from Winterthur are used.
