What should be created?
In "postfossilCities junior" – the climate challenge for young people – the path to net zero is experienced in a playful way: the young people discuss concrete climate protection measures and implement them. You can see immediately what works – and what doesn't. Climate protection becomes tangible: with real conflicting goals, measurable impact and decisions that count. The young people experience that their actions have an effect. In the evaluation, we build a bridge to ongoing climate projects in the neighbourhood and to our own living environment. The young people experiment with their scope of action, gain self-confidence – and take action. postfossilCities junior awakens an understanding of climate protection measures and encourages young people to get involved in the neighbourhood. The offer is aimed at young people in secondary levels I and/or II (including vocational schools and grammar schools) and takes place in the school building or at other suitable locations in the neighbourhood. ©Images: ETH, Alessandro Della Bella

The simulation game "postfossilCities junior" has proven itself in many places: in workshops with secondary school classes from Niederhasli (Canton of Zurich) and from Entlebuch (Canton Lucerne, workshop at the Museum of Transport in Lucerne), with children and young people at ETH Zurich (Future Day and Science City Hönggerberg) and soon with apprentices from the city of Winterthur.

Describe the place(s)
We are active inside and outside educational institutions, networked with the projects in the pilot district. Possible locations are the secondary and vocational schools in the neighborhood, the cantonal school and perhaps also places in the neighborhood, close to the projects. The project is scalable, from 1-2 impulse workshops to nationwide for all students in the neighborhood.
