The Last Grazing – A Meadow for the Future

What should be created?
The Kollerwiese is the green living room of Alt-Wiedikon. This is where children play, young people chill out, residents walk — and this is where sparrows peck, dogs romp, earthworms burrow. With "The Last Grazing", the Kollerwiese becomes a place of encounter, questioning and cultural change: a multi-year cultural project that questions the relationship between city and nature, people and other animals, climate and nutrition and makes it possible to experience it in a different way. *** Nutrition is the biggest personal climate lever — and at the same time the most sensitive. Beef and dairy products are responsible for a large proportion of Switzerland's diet-related greenhouse gas emissions. We want to bring this topic into the neighborhood: not with pointing fingers and bans, but through a playful and honest approach to facts and one's own contradictions — with humor, art, real conversations and a big wooden cow. *** The project consists of seven elements: 🐄 1. THE COW SCULPTURE — A walk-in wooden sculpture made of Swiss wood, with a platform on its back as a stage for concerts, DJ sets, readings and performances. The visible heart of the project, which will stand on the meadow for the entire duration. 🎵 2. ARTISTIC PROGRAM — Regular events around sculpture: music, theater, spoken word, art walks through the neighborhood, curated by Soya the Cow (performance artist Daniel Hellmann). Artists can voluntarily sign a Pledge: Advocacy for Beef and Dairy-Free Diets in their work. 🌿 3. INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION — Seasonal open-air exhibition (spring-autumn) with stations spread across the meadow: an interactive climate scale (CO₂ equivalents of food), a walk-in cow diary (ecological footprint from calf to plate), a confessional (anonymous confession for beef eaters, without condemnation, with humorous absolution ritual), and a craving corner with tactile udder stations for those who miss dairy products. 🤝 4. EXIT BEEF — neighborhood dialogue program with restaurants, shops, supermarkets and canteens. Collaborative, not confrontational. Businesses that implement measures receive the label "Partner Das letzte Grasen" and are made visible in the neighbourhood. 📣 5. POSTERS & FLYER — The quarter is being used: advertising columns, tram stations, shop windows, bulletin boards. "The last grazing begins now." — "Kollerwiese. Something is growing here." 🐮 6. FLASH MOB "MOOING FOR THE CLIMATE" — Unique neighborhood flash mob with cow print clothing and collective mooing. Playful, collective, documented as a viral format. 💬 7. TALK SERIES "HOW WILL WE LIVE TOMORROW?" — Open discussion evenings on the meadow: What does Switzerland look like without industrial animal production? What happens to farms, areas, landscapes? How do we live as a neighbourhood and city in a post-animal industry society? Guests: Farmers with TransFARMation experience (Narr farm, over 200 farms accompanied), experts from Protein Transition Switzerland and Sentience Protein Lab.***
