Exchange point. - Züri net zero

The concept of tauschpunkt. is about the construction of facilities for the transfer of goods from everyday life. At such exchange stations, objects that are no longer used should be able to be deposited for free transfer to others, thus promoting the careful use of resources. This is strongly based on the existing unofficial practice that items are provided with a free sign and left on the street for free distribution. The concept takes up the strengths of the existing practice – free, informal, spontaneous – and transfers them into a clearly designed, weather-protected and legally secured infrastructure. By realizing several systems in publicly accessible locations, a nationwide sharing system could be established. In addition to the exchange function, the facility is also intended to raise awareness of the circular economy and was designed to appeal to the widest and most diverse audience possible. In the context of increasing scarcity of resources, growing consumer pressure and urban isolation, the discussion of sustainable and community-oriented alternatives to consumption and disposal is gaining relevance. Especially in cities like Zurich, where there is an awareness of environmental issues and social justice, a valuable, legally anchored and designed sharing system could emerge from the informal practice. This would not only extend the lifespan of used objects, but would also open up new forms of living and working together in the Promote neighborhood. The concept tauschpunkt. was developed as a diploma thesis for the HF Product Design course at the SfGZ.
