Sustainability Library

Avatar: Jan Jan

What should be created?
A Sustainability Library in District 3 (working title) A room with books, comfortable seating, a long table and a tea corner: The "Sustainability Library in District 3" (AT) wants to create this space in the neighbourhood – accessible, inviting and easily accessible. The focus is on books that raise awareness and inspire – on ecology, sustainability, coexistence and the social dimensions of a sustainable society. In addition to accessible texts from the sciences, there are stories, children's books and publications that open up artistic perspectives on these questions. In the form of essays, poetry and prose, as well as concrete instructions and scientific texts, the audience is addressed to as diverse an audience as possible. The Sustainability Library is also a space for encounters between neighbours. A common ground in which, in addition to the preoccupation with books, dialogue can arise. This approach orients the spatial concept: In addition to bookshelves with isolated seating options for in-depth reading, we have a long board in mind where tea can be drunk, exchanged, sketched and discussed, as well as an information board where further net-zero projects can be informed. Outside opening hours, the location could also serve as a meeting place or meeting room for the projects of the Netto-Null pilot district. It could also be spatially connected to another project. The library should be open at least 2 days a week, e.g. Thursdays and Sundays from 2–8 p.m. To activate the location and the library, we organize a reading, a book review or invite you to a workshop once a month. The program will be open to activation proposals from other net-zero initiatives. The place is to be made known via flyers and posters as well as signage. About us: We are two bookworms and have already implemented libraries and bookstores (including in District 5, in Cabaret Voltaire, in Basel, Locarno and Barcelona) and have been publishing in the art book sector for over 15 years. Central to our artistic and curatorial practices is the idea of sympoiesis: the common becoming and interweaving of people, animals, plants, and environments.
