Bringing solidarity-based agriculture to the Binz district

What should be created?
We want the concept of solidarity-based agriculture (Solawi) to become clearly visible and easily accessible to the residents of the neighbourhood as an ecological and social component of the food transition. Solidarity-based agriculture makes a concrete contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions through food production: through regional, climate-friendly cultivation with a lot of manual work, through active soil care and humus build-up, as well as through biodiversity-promoting methods such as agroforestry. Since production and demand are directly coordinated, food waste is avoided at the source. At the same time, Solawi enables real participation: city dwellers are not only consumers, but co-sponsors of an agricultural business. This creates identification – the neighbourhood becomes a co-producer of its food. Functioning structures already exist in Zurich, for example through ortoloco and other initiatives in the Solawi Zurich network. In the Binz pilot district, this offer is to become more visible and more widely accessible. The plan is to create an attractive depot location in a shop that will not only serve as a distribution point, but also as a networking and information centre for sustainable nutrition. Food coops, food sharing, community gardens and solawis complement each other as central building blocks of climate-neutral and sustainable nutrition. The shop is intended to bring these initiatives together, make synergies fruitful and serve as a contact point for exchange, cooperation and community commitment. In addition, we would like to create low-threshold educational and information offers on sustainable nutrition in the shop. The offer is aimed at families in the neighbourhood as well as passers-by during their lunch break.
example
The Bucheggplatz district depot follows a similar approach. However, we want to make the place more diverse and accessible to everyone. Selective events on the topic of food and agriculture are also conceivable.
