Reason
Binz-Enge Bus – Networking instead of a dead end
-
What should be created?
- Although Binz is geographically central, it is a traffic dead end. (1) One-sided orientation: The connection is almost exclusively in the direction of HB (S10). (2) The Sihl and the motorway access roads physically separate Binz from Enge. A walk to Enge station takes 20-25 minutes through unattractive underpasses. ---------------------------------------------------- The solution: Line 76 will be upgraded to a real district connection between districts 2 and 3. (1) The route:Wiedikon → Binz →Binz Center → Sihlcity →Bhf. Narrowness (2) Network effect: Three important stations (Wiedikon, Binz, Enge) are connected directly to each other, without the detour via the main station. (3) Two-way use: Binz residents can reach the lake/Enge train station in 8 minutes. Conversely, Binz (gastronomy, commerce) will finally be accessible without a car for people from Enge and Wollishofen. (4) 7-day service: Introduction of Sunday operation to reduce dependence on the car for leisure activities. ---------------------------------------------------- Why as a pilot project? (1) Low risk: No new rail infrastructure needs to be built. It is purely about the optimization of an existing bus line. (2) Test of demand: A pilot year shows whether the residents of Binz use the bus (3) Expected effect: (a) Traffic relief: Less search traffic and short-distance journeys between districts 2 and 3. (b) Quality of life: Upgrading Binz as a modern residential location through a 7-day connection to the Zurich lake basin
