Implementing climate-friendly heating systems (project 1)

Avatar: Quartierverein Wiedikon Quartierverein Wiedikon

What should be created?
A good fifth of greenhouse gases (22.2%) are generated by building emissions (FOEN figures). We propose to extend the entire Haldenstrasse from Binz station to Friesenbergstrasse - house no. 1 to approx. 140 - from fossil to climate-friendly heating systems. That is about 100 properties with around 300 - 600 apartments. An estimated half of these are still heated with oil or gas heating systems. The owners of the approximately 50 properties are offered a contribution of around CHF 10,000 towards the switch from fossil to environmentally friendly heating systems (circulating heat pumps or geothermal probes) if this is done WITHIN TWO years (!). Assuming that between 30 and 50 percent of owners accept the offer, the cost of this switch would be between CHF 150,000 and 250,000. A significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions could be achieved in the Alt-Wiedikon/Binz project perimeter. Reckon!

This is one of three concrete proposals by the Wiedikon neighbourhood association. They have already been submitted in a letter dated June 11, 2025 to City Councillor Andreas Hauri and the Net Zero project management.
