Decidim upgrade to version 0.31.6

On 6 August 2026, maintenance work will take place on "Contributing to Zurich's Future". In doing so, we are updating Decidim, the underlying software of the platform, from version 0.29 to version 0.31.2. The update thus also includes all the new features of the intermediate version 0.30.

New functions

Taxonomies
Until now, subject areas, areas and categories ran separately next to each other. They will now be brought together in a uniform, hierarchically structured system (e.g. "Environment > Mobility > Bicycle"). This makes it easier to assign and filter posts across all components.

The new course shows the development of a contribution as a coherent story instead of as loosely linked individual elements – from the first proposal to implementation.

Co-authorship from comments
Anyone who contributes substantially in the comments section of a proposal can be added directly by the original person as a co-author.

AI-powered spam detection
A new module supports moderation by automatically detecting and flagging spam and low-quality content.

Elections component
Elections can now be carried out directly via a separate component, with various configuration options – without the complexity of cryptographic protection. For use cases with additional protection requirements, a separate module with the Vocdoni protocol is still available.

Collaborative texts
A newly developed module gradually replaces the previous "participatory texts" and enables the joint editing of documents in a more structured form.

Other improvements

• Revised management interface: Actions in list views are now accessible via drop-down menus, which improves the overview of many entries

• Waiting lists and QR code registration for events

• Extended and consolidated GraphQL and Write API, incl. configurable API authentication

• Technical basis: Transition to Rails 7.2
