Important note on completing the survey: The survey can be completed gradually, i.e. an intermediate result can be saved. However, the intermediate status is only saved if you always open and complete the survey with the same device and via the same browser. For simplified data collection and dissemination within the cultural institution, the survey can be Download Word file and distributed to several people.

Objectives: With the help of climate assessments and key figure surveys (data, information), it should be possible to see how much greenhouse gas emissions (GHGE) are emitted caused by the cultural sector, which GHGs should be reduced as a matter of priority and who is responsible for this. The findings are to serve as a basis for defining and prioritizing appropriate climate protection measures for all subsidized cultural institutions.
Procedure: 10 climate assessments are required and divided into clusters (classification of institutions according to comparable characteristics/areas of activity such as event venues, festivals, etc.). The cultural institutions were able to express their interest in participating. Due to the composition according to clusters, it was decided that new climate assessments would be prepared for these six cultural institutions: Camerata, Helmhaus, Moods, Neumarkt, Tanzhaus, Tonhalle. Existing climate assessments of three to four other cultural institutions will be incorporated into the project. In addition, a survey collects data, key figures and information from a further 55 cultural institutions, which serve for further classification and scaling.
Duration: December 2024 to September 2025
Participants: Part of the project are all cultural institutions that receive a temporary/unlimited recurring contribution of at least CHF 30,000, a 6-year concept grant from the City of Zurich or are a city-owned institution during the period of the project. That's 65 cultural institutions. All other 20 or so subsidised cultural institutions will benefit from the results of the project.
Partners: The City of Zurich has commissioned the act Cleantech Agency Switzerland to implement the project "Climate Accounting for Cultural Institutions". Act is already implementing the Ecocompass for the Office for Environmental and Health Protection Zurich (UGZ). In implementing the project, act is supported by Carbotech, an environmental consulting and greenhouse gas accounting company with extensive experience in the cultural sector.
